In addition to the previous Dubai travel information and guides for visitors coming to Dubai, one should also know the following facts especially concerning health and other related matters for safer stay and full enjoyment of their stay.

Health

Dubai has some private and public hospitals that have great facilities. Surprisingly, the United Arab Emirates was reported to be one of the two countries where no cases of illnesses were reported during vacations by the British consumer magazine. This can be attributed to the vigorous immunization program by the government, high hotel cleanliness standards in restaurants and hotels, and adequate clean water provision.

To Know More About Dubai Health Care System Click Here

Immunizations

One does not require any special vaccinations although it will be prudent to check prior to your travel if you come from areas that are considered to be highly risky. In case you are considering taking a prolonged trip, it is advisable to be immunized against a number of diseases. Taking precautions will help in preventing hepatitis cases which are very rare whileas polio has been wiped out in UAE. Hepatitis B, C, D is transmitted through blood transfusion, sexual intercourse and the use of unsterilized needles, Hepatitis A through contaminated water and food.

Malaria

Due to the low number of mosquitoes in cities and towns, malaria is not considered a major risk in the UAE and therefore malaria tablets are hardly ever stipulated from those travelling to Dubai. One will however be exposed to mosquitoes if camping near the Wadis or date groves or camping near the mountains in the evening hours. The use of mosquito repellents or nets is advisable in order to avoid mosquito bites. You should also consult a medical practitioner prior to your travel in case you are doubtful.

Sunburn

Due to the extreme heat evidenced in Dubai throughout the year, heat exhaustion and heatstroke are always major risks. You should use high factor sun creams, hats, sunglasses and especially for children when visiting.

Health Insurance

Public hospitals only offer free services for very few emergency cases in the AUE. These are the best equipped hospitals and therefore one should consider buying an insurance policy to take care of any possible occurrences and especially if you might be in need of treatment from private clinics or hospitals. The services here are always good and reliable.

Doctors In Dubai

In case you need a doctor, you can make enquiries at the general medical centre or at your hotel. You could also call your embassy for necessary suggestions. Major hospitals are also good in case of emergency medical care and are unable to contact a physician.

Pharmacies

Most pharmacies have medicines readily available for those who need them. All the emirates have at least one pharmacy operating for 24 hours. You can check on the local newspapers for more details. You can get the 24 hour municipality emergency numbers for some emirates (Abu Dhabi 02 777 929; Dubai 04 2232323)

Personal Security And Safety

Dubai and the larger UAE is a very safe place for visitors. The international travel industry has rated Dubai as one of the safest vacation destinations. It is however important to consider having a travel insurance and follow the obvious safety measures to ensure that you and your valuables are safe.

Below are some emergency numbers:

Dubai police hotline (Al Ameen service) – 8004888
Police – 999
Coastguard – 04 3450520
Ambulance – 998 or 999
Fire – 997

Once you dial 04 2821111 or 999, due to an emergency, Dubai Police pledge that a police helicopter will arrive to the scene within 8 minutes.

Cases that are not categorized as emergency such as suggestions, traffic queries, complaints, common information including location or address, and police events, dial 901 in Dubai.

The low rate of crime in Dubai promises the visitors an event-free visit. However, one is advised to ensure that their valuables are well safe-guarded and especially in public places or when travelling using public means. In addition to this, Middle East visitors are advised to be watchful all the time due to the international happenings and the threat posed by terrorists. Precaution is especially required when frequenting entertainment joints and especially those that have links with the West. Additionally, keep away from any political activities or demonstrations.

Helicopter Services

By dialling 999 or 04 2821111, Dubai Police disburse an emergency a police helicopter within 8 minutes.

Giving Tips

Despite the fact that tipping is not usual, it is something that is widespread. Bonuses are given to hotel staffs depending with the givers willingness. Many restaurants normally include the service charges on the bills and in case this is not done, one can include 10% of the total amount spent to the billing amount. This does not however extend to the cab drivers. Dh.2 is normally normal to give to windscreen washers in petrol stations, bag carriers and supermarket baggers.

Taking Photos

Everything needed is always available including films, processing equipments and colour prints. It will be important to talk to the people before aiming shots at them. Don’t takes photos of Muslim women, airports, docks, telecommunication equipments, government buildings, industrial equipments and the military.

Alcohol

It is not illegal to drink alcohol in Dubai. One can buy it at the duty free shop within the airport premises. One can only buy 4 bottles as this is the limit for an individual. Dubai residents are the only ones allowed to purchase alcohol in liquor stores and supermarkets but they need to have alcohol licences to do this. One is not permitted to consume alcohol on the streets and neither should it be taken while one is driving. It is also prohibited to drink alcohol during mourning periods, public holidays as well as in public places as aforementioned.

Drugs

Drugs are not tolerated at all in Dubai and one might face some very serious penalties for this in case one is caught. There are regulations in Dubai concerning regulated drugs and one will do well to first of all confirm in case they are travelling and have to use prescribed drugs. This might have to face some restrictions and it will be good to confirm. For example, Tylenol 3 is prohibited owing to the codeine presence in it. Therefore you should confirm prior to travelling. In case you are travelling with the stipulated drugs, carry only what you must use.

Although Dubai is known to be a Muslim emirate, it is considered as one of the most moderate of all the other emirates in the Middle East. It is however important to note that there are some rules in place that are intended to create order and avoid any offensive actions that could offend the general public. It is important to know these rules prior to your travel to the emirate.

Below are brief of Dubai tourist information and travel guides

The Ideal Time To Visit Dubai

The most enjoyable time to make a trip to Dubai is during the months of April and November. During these months, the weather is quite lovely with the temperatures standing at around 30 degrees Celsius. Dubai has terrible temperatures during the summer season with temperatures rising up to 48 Degrees Celsius. But if you are a Muslim or interested in the Islam religion, then Ramadan is an ideal time to visit.

Shoppers should however avoid visiting the emirate during the Ramadan period as indulging in foods and drinks in bars and local restaurants is prohibited during this period. This means you should avoid visiting the place during this period as it will turn out to be the most unpleasant period for you. The Ramadan dates are not fixed and you should check for details prior to the visit.

Dubai also has some interesting sporting activities such as Dubai Tennis Championships, Desert Classic and Rugby Sevens. If you are a sport lover, then visiting Dubai during the sporting calendar will give you a plate-full of activities to enjoy.

Being Accompanied By Children

Just as in any other part of the globe, small children are free to visit Dubai. This is one of the best destinations for kids offering a host of activities for them both inside and around the various star hotels, swimming pools, unique amusement parks, theme parks, green areas, entertainment centres and museums. Kids’ meals are always available in bigger hotels as well as baby-sitting services available upon request in main hotels.

Women Travellers

Women travellers will find Dubai as a safe place to visit. They are allowed to work, drive etc and also enjoy a tolerant lifestyle here when compared to different other Gulf regions. One might however attract a lot of unnecessary attention when travelling on their own. It will be important for any woman traveller to realize that they are coming into a place that has deep rooted traditions.

They will find a stay in one of the 4 or 5 star accommodations ideal from where they can enjoy a relaxed time and use the private coastline facilities within the hotels. When travelling away from the resorts and the beach clubs, one should avoid wearing revealing and tight clothes.

Long sleeve cotton shirts and loose trousers will be ideal. When mingling with the locals, don’t be the first one to stretch out your hand for a handshake but rather wait until one is offered to you as many staunch Muslims do not like shaking hands with women. In the United Arab Emirates, women are given precedence when it comes to places such as police stations, post offices and banks. Government offices normally offer separate queues for women.

Travellers With Special Needs

Travellers with special needs have a special handling area within the Dubai International Airport. It will therefore be ideal for passengers on wheelchairs to expect personalized services in this section. Disabled persons are also catered for when it comes to various star hotels with some rooms specifically made for them.

This is also the case in many shopping malls which are equipped with facilities that are intended to help them as they go about their business. This is the case also when it comes to Taxi transport system where cars are fitted with facilities to accommodate wheelchairs.

Somewhere To Stay

Getting somewhere to stay in Dubai can be extremely expensive. One should therefore plan ahead. During the peak summer, the cost of accommodation drops significantly although this is not the best time to enjoy your stay in Dubai. Dubai offers many other quality and clean 2-star lodging facilities as well.

These may come in handy for you in case you find the 5 star hotels to be extremely expensive for you. The money saved in the process can be useful for entertainment, food and other shopping needs. If you are travelling as a big family, you might consider staying in a common place together.

Dubai Visit Visa

Visit visas are obtained through DNRD. They are stamped to be valid for 30 days, but are good for 60 days, but can be lengthened for a further 30 days with additional costs. You need to apply for an extension before the 60 days is up. If a visit visa holder stays for longer than 60 days or after the extension for more than 90 days, they are fined per day in addition to out pass charges.

There are certain passport holders who can travel to the UAE without getting a visit visa before they arrive, and can stay for 30 days.

The ministry of education has been vigilant in ensuring that Schools in Dubai adheres to an internationally recognized curriculum. This has made the country’s education system to grow at the same speed with other sectors. The education sector and monetary firms has made it possible for people from various parts of the world to benefit.

The government has been ensuring that the curriculum used by schools in Dubai UAE is appropriate. This is being done though regular inspections aimed to identify weaknesses and propose solutions. This has been instrumental in upgrading teaching methods and administration methods used in learning institutions.

Education Systems

The Dubai currency recognition worldwide has made it possible for student from various parts of the world to study in this country. With the number of foreigners attracted by the opportunities in the nation on the increase the Dubai exchange rate have played a major role. The value of the currency has remained a key element in encouraging people to settle in the country.

Schools in Dubai offer a holistic mode of learning which provides learners with essential skills. There are institutions which use syllabuses adopted from nations recognized for their high standard in education levels. Theses syllabuses include CBSE of India, GCSE of Britain and the American curriculum.

International and local institutions

Dubai currency and exchange rate have lead to increased number of local and international tertiary institutions. To reach a wide number of students, several international institutions have opened branches in the country. With the improved growth experienced in the country more institutions are expected to be established.

Schools in Dubai UAE have attracted tutor and students from many countries. This has made competition for places to become very stiff. Despite the competition the Schools in Dubai are doing all that is needed t keep the standard high.

Dubai Museum:

The important museum of UAE is located on Bur Dubai in Al Fahidi street which is named as Al Fahidi fort. It was originally constructed to protect against foreign invasion in the year 1799, but was transformed into a museum in 1995 after restoration in 1970.

Dubai national museum depicts the city’s rich heritage and history. Splendid old maps mark the entrance which exhibits last century’s urban growth in Dubai. Singular trip to traditional Arabian homes, desert life, fishing, mosques, dhow building, farming, everyday trading, and pearl diving are in the museum. Artifacts including genuine musical instruments excavated from graves during 3000 B.C is the major attraction. This museum also contains deadly weapons namely axes, pistols, shields, arrows, bows, spears, and swords.

The museum is open all the week; Saturday to Thursday from 8 am to 8:30 pm, and Friday from 2 pm to 8.30 pm; except in public holidays. The admission fee is Dhs. 3 (US$ 1). Tel: +971 4 353 1862.

Gold and Diamond Museum:

Since this city was built on trade, gold is the most important mainstay. Eventhough many tourists opt for traditional gold souk, gold and diamond museum enables quick stop into town which is located on sheikh zayed road. Thirty retailers and 118 manufacturers are featured by gold and diamond park under one roof.

Guided tours of manufacturing plant and history of trade are revealed by visitor’s center and museum in addition to the abundant shops.

Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House:

Al Maktoum house which is located at Bur Dubai in Al Shindagha road is one of the city’s oldest houses. It is also local architecture’s fine example. Grandfather of present ruler, Shaikh Saeed, constructed this house from sandstone in 1896. After a centure, it was converted into museum after restoration.

Since it was built to monitor activities of shipping from the balconies, it provides a superb sea view. It boasts its beautiful layers of rooms and wind towers surrounding the central courtyard by exhibiting the progress of Dubai through the past fifty years and also contains photographs.

The entrance fee is Dhs. 2 (US$ 0.60). It is open Saturday to Thursday from 8:30 am to 9 pm, and Friday from 3 pm to 10 pm. Tel: +971 4 393 7139.

Bait Al-Wakeel:

This first city office building is located on the Dubai creek’s banks. In 1934, Sheikh Rashid constructed this. In 1930, Bait Al-Wakeel was the important location for exports and imports in Dubai through cargo-carrying ships.

After restoration, this building was made into a museum as a dedication to old maritime and fishing traditions. Turathi restaurant which is famous for its Emarati and Arabic plate seafoods is located here.

Majlis Ghorfat Um-Al Sheif:

The late sheikh Rashin Bin Saeed-Al Maktoum used this simple building as summer residence. It was constructed from gypsum and coralstone in 1955. First floor called majlis which means a meeting place in Arabic is decorated with lanterns, cushions, rifles, cushions, and lanterns while ground floor is left as an open veranda (called as rewaaq or leewan.) Roof terrace was mainly used for sleeping and drying dates. Eventhough now only villa rooftops are seen from this place, it previously provided view of sea uninterruptedly. Traditional irrigation system called falaj and garden along with a pod are situated in this site. Barasti shelter is found in the other corner which was constructed from palm leaves and branches.

Majlis is located besides Reem-Al Bawardi restaurant just on the land near the shoreline on seventeenth street Jumeira road. You can look for the municipality signs in brown color.

Entry fee is free for kids below 6 years and 1 dirham for adults. On Friday mornings, it is closed.

Universally acclaimed by organizations, the health care system in Dubai stands tall in its own right when compared to those of the developed countries with respect to quality services. This prestige bestowed can be attributed to a multitude of reasons.

To begin with, there are medical centers and hospitals furnished with state-of-the-art technology, in important places across the city, in order to cater to the entire population of Dubai, estimated to be around 1,241,000 according to the 2009 census. These health care centers, which amount to be approximately twenty, create a respectable 1:62,050 clinic-patient ratio.

Dubai’s public health care program is run by the Department of Health and Medical Services (DOHMS). Quality medical services are provided absolutely free by this organization, not only to people living in Dubai, but also across other Emirates nearby. One noteworthy fact remains that no citizen is obliged to undertake Employer or Government insurance in Dubai.

Yes, you heard us right! No employee is entitled to receive medical insurance from the Company or the employer he/she is working for. However, upon request, health cards might be issued to workers from abroad. These health cards may be used by the foreign nationals to gain entry in Dubai hospitals only in a crisis situation. Private medical insurances might be obtained by foreign nationals using their own contacts in Dubai.

Apart from the public sector hospitals and health care centers, there are a number of private medical practicing firms in Dubai. Practitioners from countries like USA, UK and India amongst others have set up successful private firms in the city. The Dubai Government painstakingly assesses their qualifications and skills before issuing them licenses to practice in Dubai.

As a medical practitioner in Dubai, one of the responsibilities to shoulder would be attending after-hours private emergencies. This is one of the true hall-marks of the Dubai health care system. Physicians are expected to provide equal medical consideration to every individual in Dubai, irrespective of nationality, creed or position. However, after-clinic private medical attention comes at a higher cost compared to those rendered during clinic hours.

The health care system in Dubai is committed to enhance the complete welfare of all its citizens. Individuals in the city are assured of complete medical assistance pertaining to their specific ailment. Besides, people in the city are pledged appropriate medical aid by the health care system in Dubai, that incorporate the following –Providing public awareness about consuming a wholesome diet and having good health.Providing physical fitness to the public.Rendering family planning services, marriage consultancies and other social-welfare assistance.Dispensing proper vaccinations and medicines. In addition to those described above, there are specialty clinics for psychic treatments, drug rehab centers and yoga treatments.

The Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a venture embarked by Dubai, is purported to be the most exquisite medical project ever. Featuring some of the most celebrated names of the medical world within it, this project is said to be the first health care free zone, in the globe.

Eminent organizations like the Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research (DHFMR), the Boston University Institute for Dental Research and Education Dubai (BUIDRE), the University of Teaching Hospital (UH) and others are housed here.
